The Digital Competence Wheel: An interactive online tool
The Digital Competence Wheel is an interactive online tool for mapping your digital competencies. The tool can support you in understanding and strengthening your competencies in terms of being able to understand, use, communicate and develop digital solutions.
The Digital Competence Wheel is developed by Centre for Digital Literacy (Forside | Center for Digital Dannelse), who has been specializing in digital formation and digital competencies for more than 10 years.
The purpose of the wheel is to provide an overview of digital competencies and offer specific tools for elevating and improving these competencies.
The competence wheel is a generalized model that aims to cover the digital competencies of all employee groups. Some competencies must be fully mastered by some employees while a more basic command will suffice for others.
Accordingly, it is important to adapt the definition and management of each competency to the conditions and needs of the specific context in which they are utilized.

Each main area is further divided into four digital competencies.
The Digital Competence Wheel is theoretically based on a major EU research project called DIGCOMP, derived from the European Parliament’s inclusion of digital competence as one of the eight core competences for lifelong learning. Visit the EU DigComp site for further information.

Test yourself: The Digital Competence Wheel
You can create an overview of your own competences to identify strengths and weaknesses in your digital competencies. Set aside approximately 15 minutes for the test.
The Competence Wheel is an online self-evaluation tool consisting of a test with a series of questions regarding your knowledge and use of digital competencies. The questions will map your competencies in the competence wheel which is available in a print-friendly report when completed.
In order to map digital competence, this tool uses a variety of methodological and theoretical considerations.
It is a fact that there are many and diverse definitions of the concept ‘digital competence’ which reflects its importance. What they all have in common is that we no longer perceive digital competence as merely being about access to and use of technology, but rather the ability to benefit from it in meaningful ways – in life, in work life, and in learning.
Digital competence consists of several learning domains as you will discover when you test yourself.
Access the test here:
The test is available in several languages.

The wheel is also available in a special edition for students and educators respectively:
